ILA Newsletter Project: Literacy Effective Website # 5

This website goodreads (http://www.goodreads.com) is a book-focused websites launched in January 2007 and the largest site for readers and book recommendations. Their mission is to help people find and share books they love. This website also tracks readers of what they are reading and they also let readers write a book reviews. Once a reader finishes their reading, the reader will rate books or mark them. After that, Goodreads will recommend new books for the readers to read.

This website can track the kind of books the reader is reading, have read, or want to read. The book recommendations engine analyzes 20 billion data points to give suggestions tailored to your literacy tastes. It is also free to use and as readers you can access your account via the Goodreads website or the IOS or Android App. One thing about this website is that you can also tract the kinds of books your friends are reading. The books available on Goodreads are stored in the public domain. As readers, one must not read books that are currently not in the public domain, it’s like taking money out of the pockets of the authors who write the books that you really like and that is stealing.

Goodreads is a wealthy of literary information and enthusiasm that teens can really sink their teen into. Using Good reads (http://www.goodreads.com) can enhance teens’ reading experience and help them become thoughtful, enthusiastic readers. Moreover, Goodreads is an excellent place for older kids and teens to discuss their favorite books with fellow readers online. This website does not specify the appropriate ages for using the sites it can be used with readers of all ages. Goodreads does not set up for classroom use, but there are few ways teachers can integrate it into the curriculum. As mention earlier, Goodreads offers another way for kids to communicate about books, which is always a good thing. It is easy to set up a classroom group within the site where students can talk about the current class reading selection. Teachers can post assignments and questions along with quizzes.
