Epic https://www.getepic.com/ is a digital library for books and videos for children. It is an online library that allows students or online readers for accessing all content. This site also allows teachers to track students’ progress of students reading. Students can read from this website as it works like an e-reader, allowing them to take in books using tablet, laptop or Smartphone because the app version is specifically designed for use on digital devices. Epic contains 25,000 or more high-quality text with both fiction and non-fiction titles and series that students can read and for teachers to assign their students. It is a free website for teachers and also students to log in. It allows teachers to create an account and also students. Epic contains books for all subjects like English language arts, science, arts, social emotional learning, social studies, and math. It also provide specific topic for each subject.
Epic allows teachers to select subject and look for a book that they want to assign their students to read. They can choose book according to the age of their students or their level of reading. When you select a book, it will give you the age of students who can read the book, the level of reading, how many page the book contains, the author of the book, and if there is a quiz from the book. Within the teacher section for this site, you can see student data for each child in your classroom. There is a master overview page that includes your class totals and an overview of how many books and hours each student read. It also allow teachers to open up under each student name on more detailed information about their reading habits including which book they have opened, how long their spend on each book, how many pages the student flipped, and whether or not they completed the book. Teachers can create their own collection with any of the books on site and assign then to any or all of the students. They can also create a multiple-choice quiz to share or assign to their students, but there are many collections and quizzes already available in the other books.
As for students, they can customize their reading profile by indicating their age and interest because this will individualize their main page with appropriate text match. Once they complete their profile, they can read, explore the website, they earn achievement which allows them to unlock their profile. Students can create a list of personal favorites that will really helpful when they are reading or listening to longer texts. Therefore, epic is really fun for students to learn reading and become better readers.
