ILA Newsletter Project: Effective Literacy Website #4

 

                Into the Book https://reading.ecb.org/index.html is a reading comprehension resource for elementary students and teachers. It is designed to help improve elementary student’s reading comprehension, as well as their ability to thing and learn across the curriculum. This website project focus on eight research based strategies that including using prior knowledge, making connections, questioning, visualizing, inferring, summarizing, evaluating, and synthesizing for both students and teachers. Into the Book provides reading resources for student online activities, videos, lesson plans, and other resources for teachers. Under each strategy like prior knowledge, it will give you definition of prior knowledge, online activity teacher guide with lessons, books, videos, posters and songs.   

            Into the Book is an informative source for teachers to teach students with comprehension. It allows teachers to use eight different strategies to teach their students in many different ways using different materials. This websites provide students activities that can allow them to practice reading comprehension strategies. Furthermore, teachers can get their teaching tools from this site that include; video clips, posters, teacher guide, lesson plan activities, and even song for the strategies. This is an effective website that can improve teachers teaching reading comprehension and make student’s learning without difficulty.  

            In addition, this website will be fun and interesting for student to use. They can choose the strategies that they want to learn about and do the activity based on their interest strategies. For example visualize, they will read the short stories and then draw what they comprehend from the story that they read. It contains list of books for students learning and also songs that will make them learn. This website is originally made for 3rd graders and up.

With each videos, it has remarkable graphics along with upbeat songs that allows teaching more fun. To sign up, you can easily go to the website and create a username by entering your email address. This website has a free trial, and you can also pay for subscription that cost $67 a year for more videos for your students. Using the platform, Flocabulary, you can easily find videos that matches your classroom lessons that can be exciting and fun for the students.   International Literacy Association (ILA) Newsletter Weekly Project:  Effective Literacy Website #5 Story Place: The Children’s Digital Learning Library is an online literacy platform that focuses on building literacy for children in Preschool. This site offers digital storybooks that are animated. When you click into one of the stories, you will see a few expansion activities below. There are online activities for children to do as well as hands-on crafting activities that have printable templates for teachers or parents.  Included are videos that relate to concepts or ideas learned in the storybook. These videos are used to expand upon ideas learned in the story. Under each story, there is a reading list that relates to the theme of the story.
