International Children’s Digital Library (http://www.childrenslibrary.org) is a free website that is designed mainly for children’s books. All kinds of books for children ages 3 to 13 are included on this website and not only in English, but in different languages. The creators of this website want to support the world’s children to become effective members of the global community and to support children that respect other diverse cultures and languages. The belief is that once children are exposed to other cultures and languages, they will be respectful and tolerate others. That is why this website you will not find only books in English, but in different kinds of languages.
The only way to access to this website is just go directly to the link and enter. Once the homepage shows up, first thing one will notice is caption that says Read Books. You will then see options like book list, and books language and then other choices. You will just click on one and the list of books will be given to you and choose the book of your choice. There is a part where you can look for other books in other languages, the website has it all. It is free for a reason so do not hesitate to visit other books in different languages. You want to learn how to speak Spanish or French? This website is the good one to learn another language.
This website is interesting for me to write about. The people who created this website have deep respect of diverse cultures and languages and in my opinion I believe they created this website in order to instill it inside to the young children. Then this website is also a library that enhances children reading skills and to help establish their love of reading. Even though it stated that it is a research to see how young children will tolerate other diverse people and languages, it is a great website that children will enjoy. The mission for this website is “promotes tolerance and respect for diverse cultures by providing access to the best of children’s literature from around the world.
