Literacy Website #4 Exploration
The
fourth website that I have selected for review is ICivics (https://www.icivics.org.) ICivics is a great website that provides
educational resources on civic education. Its mission is educate the practice
of democracy to the younger generation. The website provides exploring primary
sources, support for remote learning and lesson plans.
The
website does require you to sign up for the account to have access to the
features on the website. Teachers, parents and students can sign up for a free
account. On the teacher account, it enables you to link up your Google
Classroom with the worksheets and other media.
The
feature of Exploring Primary Resources provides free literacy resources and
media created on topics related to events in civics. For example, the Voices
for Suffrage offers media, literacy materials and primary sources that follow
the events and key figures of Women’s Suffrage. Upon viewing this page, it is a
great source providing audio-visual learners an appealing way to read and learn
about suffrage. The page also provides guidance for teachers and students on
what they are to learn and gain from this topic.
The
Support of Remote Learning provides materials and resources that teachers,
parents and students can refer to while learning about civics. When viewing
this feature, the site offers weekly planners, games, lesson plans and useful
infographics. As mentioned, Google Classrooms can be linked to the ICivics
account to which you can assign worksheets and materials from the website and
share with your class.
The
lesson plans provided on this website help teachers who are teaching Civics or
Government courses. What is great is that it provides curriculum from various
grade levels from elementary to high school. All the lesson plans are equipped
with reading materials, activities, worksheets and some Powerpoint
Presentations to supplement the lesson.
ICivics
is great resource for teachers who are teaching a course or a lesson on Civics.
The materials and resources offer a place for both teachers, parents and students
to use and enjoy learning more about Government.
