Farewell Reflection

 This was my first Intersession that I have ever taken while attending UOG. It was everything that I had expected and not expected to be. I knew that the biggest challenge was taking two graduate courses during “the most wonderful time of the year.” Although this was the case, I have found the gift of self-discipline, perseverance and knowledge to be the driving force of how I have survived and found meaning in this course. This course has kept me on my toes and I have gained more tools to use in my class for the near future.

 It was nice to be reacquainted with Blogger, a website that I used in ED 451. Using the blogging tool brought back memories learning how to incorporate technology and education. We have more knowledge on course management systems (CMS) or learning management systems (LMS) which are the platforms that teachers use today to execute online learning. Our course explored tools and literacy websites to better aid us in our planning and resources for our class. So I am grateful for the course and the gift of knowledge and tools it has bestowed upon me this Intersession. 
     
I hope the New Year goes well for everyone. Stay safe, healthy and still teaching.

  For an intercession class, the number of assignments was what I expected. I was worried with both the number of assignments and the time frame of the class. I did end up panicking a bit, but as soon as I organized the assignments, I noticed that the assignments were not as overwhelming as I thought. The very first thing that I learned from this class is that a different perspective will help. In this case, when I listed down the assignments and categorized them into forums and assignments with due dates, I was able to calm down. Seeing the assignments lined up, I was able to finish and submit them on a timely manner. The aim of the class was to learn strategies and resources to teach with the internet. The aim was reached, and I gained valuable knowledge and information on internet tools and resources. Despite the workload, I enjoyed working on them and I wished there was more. Samantha Aileen Chu Cheng's Google Classroom - Internet Tools # 2

       Google Classroom was the platform that the Guam Department of Education chose to use for our online classes. I found it easy to use and understand for both teachers and students, especially when it had to be done with no training when the pandemic hit us. Google Classroom was easy to use because all students and teachers had a Google account through the department. Teachers were able to assign assignments through various Google platforms such as Google Slides, Google Docs, and Google Meet. I liked how Google Classroom can put all the different resources into one LMS for the students and teachers to use.       Google Classroom has a lot of functions, such as being able to grade the students' assignments on the spot, and I liked how the students were able to download the application to access their assignments, whether it is through their phones, tablets, or laptops.      Moby Max (https://www.mobymax.com/) is a K-8 learning website for all major subjects such as Math, Literacy, Science, and Social Studies. Students will be taking a diagnostic test for teachers to understand what level they are in, and it guides the teachers on how to differentiate the lessons for the students. Moby Max also has over 60 curriculum, assessments, practice modules, and subjects for the teachers to use. This program also actively engages the students with what they are learning, and it allows them to stay at their own pace with the assignments they are completing. It also gives the teachers the data when they are progress monitoring the student. Teachers can also customize the test prep questions and lessons to fit what they are learning in class.       There are schools from the Guam Department of Education piloting the Moby Max program at their schools.
