K12 Reader (https://www.k12reader.com/) is a website founded in 2008 by Jerry and Leanne
Charles. Their goal was to provide free reading instruction resources to
parents and teachers. As parents of children who attended public school, Jerry
and Leanne also learned a lot when it came to the concepts of sight words,
differentiated instruction, guided reading, phonics, etc.
The resources available from K12 Reader vary in free
printable worksheets and articles in various topics such as spelling words,
reading skills, grammar, vocabulary, and composition. There are different tabs
on the website that include subjects, grades, CCSSs, themes, references, a
blog, articles, resources, lesson templates, graphic aids, and book lists.
This website is full of free supplemental resources to
help parents and educators promote literacy in the primary and secondary
levels. The only downsides to this website are its limited resources available
for other content areas and too many advertisements if you have no subscription
to the website. There are two options of subscriptions and these are the yearly,
which is $19.95 currently instead of $47.00, or the monthly, which is $3.95.
Subscription access includes no ads, no pop-ups, no audio, same quality
content, page loads are significantly faster, pdf worksheets are easier to
print and save, and use of the site in the classroom without distractions.
Subscription is not required, though, to access the free printable worksheets
and resources.
