Self-Reflection
Of all the courses I have taken in
this milestone, I find ED 638 the most challenging. The class itself is
challenging plus taking it during that busy season of the year. Being the oldest
means a lot of responsibilities especially during the Christmas. I was
fortunate to have parents that care so much about education. They supported me
especially with it comes to my classes.
Despite the busy family activities, I take time to do my work to meet
with due dates of assignments. It is challenging! One sign of challenge that I
faced is having to submit late assignments. In graduate school, I know for sure
that it’s nothing but a terrible act to do. I blame myself and I will avoid
such act to be experienced in the future.
However, I am using these challenges as motives to lead me through this
quest.
Along with the challenges I faced in
taking ED 638, I found the things I learned new and meaningful to apply with my
own students. So far the topics I have learned from this course are very useful
to understand and apply in my own classroom. When covid-19 was at its’ worst,
schedules for classes on Pohnpei were changed as our preventative measure for
covid-19. We had classes once a week for a grade level and we had to prepare a
set of work for students to take home and work on the whole week. We used so
many papers and other office resources in preparing those many papers. The
online classroom is something that we definitely apply with my students. Aside
from its many benefits, it creates a sense of enjoyment as students get to use
technology when doing the assigned work. I am grateful to have learned how to
set up an online classroom to utilize in the future in case the schedule for
classes changes again. From time to time, I will revisit our class blog and my
personal blog for they store so many resourceful information for me and this
teaching career. I would love to use especially the Bookshare website to
provide accommodated instructional tools for my student with special
needs.
I make sure that I updated myself
through our means of communication. I checked our means of communication daily
to be updated in our classes and assignments. I communicate with my classmates
through forum discussions and whatsapp to get help from them and see what I can
help my classmates with. Even with all the challenges encountered, I am moving
forward for great endings came in the picture to those that handle their
challenges well. For the many times I thought about quitting, I thought about a
phrase I learned from you “Learning is ongoing”. If I quit right there then I,
myself has created a barrier and a stop to what is yet to learn in this
journey. “Learning is ongoing” is now a great motivation to me. Thank you so
much Dr. Rivera.
