IRA Newsletter Project: Effective Literacy Website # 3

Read Theory (https://readtheory.org/) is an online reading comprehension assessment tools that allows students to read narrative, informative and literary passages and answer corresponding comprehension questions and tracking students’ performance and reporting progress to teachers. Read Theory( https://readtheory.org/) is free for all users. It also offers online reading activities for all ages and ability levels that suited for each individual needs.

It will be a great resource for any classroom. It can be used for reading instruction and also for individual practice. The designed material in this website can be easily implemented in the Language Arts classroom to support reading, writing and critical thinking skills. This website provides high quality, engaging content, designed to assist self-learning, and critical thinking, outlined by national benchmarks and specified by the Common Core State Standard (CCSS). Their content consists over 1,000 reading comprehension passages and questions and is broken down evenly across the twelve grade levels, allocating each grade level just under 100 quizzes in total.

Teacher using Read Theory (https://readtheory.org/) must create an account before using it. Once they created their account, they will have to create a class and follow prompts to create accounts for each student. In order for students to use this website Read Theory ( https://readtheory.org/) one must create an account. After creating an account, the student will log in and go to “My Teacher” page and enter the teacher email address that the teacher uses to log in to Read Theory. After that, student must click where it said, “Send Invitation”. However, students are prompt to take a pre-test which consists of Read Theory passage examples and reading comprehension questions. Read Theory assess students’ level and presents them with content based off their performance. Using Read Theory is beneficial for teachers. They provide printable reading lessons that can be downloaded. The lessons are available and can be used for many years. However, if another teacher wants to use the lessons from you, they will need to purchase them too.
