Read Works (https://www.readworks.org/) is a literacy website that is focused on improving reading comprehension and bridging the student achievement gap. The website uses cognitive science research, provides teacher guidance, and incorporates tools that help improve teacher effectiveness and to help students achieve.
Upon checking the homepage of Read Works, the website already offers resources in three ways: digital, printing content and curriculum and using the projector. The website offers passages in the following topics: STEM, Social Studies, Arts, Poetry, Literary Fiction and Holidays and Events. This website offers literary resources that aid in SPED, ELL and is supported by millions of teachers.
Testing out the passage search, the page offers filters on topics that you want specifically search up. The page offers recommendations by topic if you are in a browsing mood. However, you can go straight to the search engine and type up the topic you are searching. The search will lead you to passages and articles related to your search. It also provides the grade level, Lexile number, the number of words and the subjects it covers. Those filters range from the type of passage you would want from digital to physical and from passages, articles or paired texts, if you want to include audio, type of activities you want and the grade level are just some of the filter preferences that exist. The website provides a very extensive type of search.
Signing up for Read Works is completely free. Read Works is great because it is linked with Google Classroom, so passages can be assigned through there. The site also offers graphic organizers, professional development tools and a vocabulary widget. There is a lot that this site has to offer and if one immerses themselves in this website long enough, it will be worth to have learn one of the greatest tools available to teachers.
