Choosito
(https://www.choosito.com/) is more than a search engine. It is a useful tool for
both student and teachers as it provides a very organized and effective way of
searching reading materials from educator approved web sources.
Choosito
is a search engine that helps with filtering reading materials or resources
online for you and your students. It uses artificial intelligence to search
through the web, along with the recommendations of educators it builds a
library of resources for students and teachers to use. What is great about it
is that it can look for materials based on your student’s reading levels and extends
to various school subjects. The results lets you know if the resource is in
their library, as a member you are able to add or remove sources from the
library, rate the resources, view suggestions of related searches are just some
features that this website has.
The
website is straightforward and easy to use. On the non-member log in, it only
shows a search engine that asks for a topic, the Choosito Library option,
reading level and subject area. Upon trying it out, the reading level and
subject are not available to non-members. It does however show the reading
level and subject area in the search results. The results have yielded reliable
educational articles about the searched topic.
There
is a big difference from what the site has to offer from the free trial
membership versus paying for it. Of course there is much more offered with the
paid for membership such as having your class access to more features versus
the standard search for reading materials. Teachers have access to video resources
and a citation tool for students to use.
The
website does offer a Game feature from which an alien goes out on a mission to
solve or answer a question. In the Game, you are to use different sources and determine
how to solve or answer the mission question based on these sources. Having this
game feature might entice students to try to figure out the answer to the
mission.
Choosito
as a website has its usefulness to teachers and students looking for reading
materials. It is good for finding articles that are on teacher-approved sites
or resources so it filters out other websites that are irrelevant. However, to
unlock more features of this website, one must pay and according to what it has
to offer, it might be well worth the investment. As a website tool by itself,
it can be a go to place for students and teachers if ever they need articles on
various topics.
